The Tech Director is a new position made for the 2010-11 year. Tech Director replaces the Engineering Commander position as it has the same duties, although it has less power in the hierarchy. The Tech Director's duties will be to create and maintain Alpha systems as well as designing and aiding in the building of Beta systems.
Pre-2004
Before 2004, a position with this title had existed with similar responsibilities. It went off the map until the 2009-10 year.
2009-10: Engineering Commander
The Engineering Commander was a position created for the 2009-10 year for Matthew Farkas-Dyck. The Engineering Commander had the same responsibilities as the future Tech Director but with Commander powers.
When questioned as to what his most frequent duties were as Engineering Commander, Matthew Farkas-Dyck responded "I build and repair things, mostly."
The position Engineering Commander was modified by the 2010 Proposal to Change the Hierarchy, transferring its mandate back to the position of Tech Director. This reclassification means that Matthew Farkas-Dyck will have been the only Engineering Commander in Spacesim history.
2010-11 and beyond
With the 2010 Proposal to Change the Hierarchy accepted, 2010-11 will see a Tech Director re-implemented, and unless another change occurs, the Tech Director will keep its stated duties at the stated level in the hierarchy.
