Popcorn has been used to great effect by the Planetary Surface Task Force to create a realistic crunching sound, as the astronauts conduct EVAs at their various mission destinations.

As of 2009-10 the use of popcorn on the planetary surface is considered to be permanently discontinued, for fear that it will attract rodents.
Popcorn is also frequently eaten by members at work sessions and obtained at Quickie Runs.
