Mission Specialist
The Mission Specialist is a position in Mission Control for those working on experiments with the Habitat. Mission Specialists can also be referred to as Mission Scientists. The astronaut counterpart is Payload Specialist.
Duties
Mission specialists in MC are trained in specialized programs that are included in experiments, such as the Parallax and Laura-piloting software. The job of mission specialist is to help the astronauts with their experiments in any way, such as by doing research, writing programs, analyzing the data from successful experiments, suggesting possible changes and creating possible experiments from equipment on the Habitat. Mission specialists should have knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, or biology depending on what experiment they are associated with. The mission specialist position is not always required in mission control; when experiments are not being conducted, they are not needed. Generally, mission specialists can monitor other stations while assisting in experiments.
