Preflight Procedures

General

The following procedures are to be performed by a combination of Flight Crew and Mission Control Staff prior to any instance the Habitat leaving a planet.

Order of Operations

If departing Earth: The following occur simultaneously:

Afterwards:

If departing a non-Earth location:

Equipment Check

  • Ensure all tools on the Tools Checklist are stowed in the Yellow Tool Box
  • Replace Yellow Tool Box in Engineering Closet
  • Verify remaining stock of Hull Sealant (Drywall Compound)
  • Replace Hull Sealant container under the table in the Interlock
  • Verify remaining stock of Hull Replacement Panes (Drywall Sheets)
  • Replace Hull Replacement Panes in far corner of the Longhouse
  • Verify that four flashlights with batteries are in the Airlock
  • Verify that four full EVA Suits are in the Airlock

Unsuccessful Completion

If an item could not be completed, inform FLIGHT and await further instructions.

Successful Completion

When all items are complete, inform FLIGHT and proceed to the following Preflight steps.

Medical Check

  • Verify that each astronaut has attended any personal needs with regards to
    • Hydration
    • Nutrition
    • Waste Management
  • Take biomed data for each astronaut
  • Verify that astronauts are comfortable in uniform
  • Astronauts are released to other duties
  • Compare biomed data to baseline and determine flight fitness of astronauts

Unsuccessful Completion

If an item could not be completed, inform the Chief Flight Surgeon and await further instructions.

Successful Completion

When all items are complete, inform FLIGHT and proceed to the following Preflight steps.

Habitat Visual Inspection

  • All astronauts excepting the Habitat Commander and, at the commander's digression, the Chief Engineer repair to C&C
  • The Habitat Commander will verify that there are no anomalies in the habitat, and that all modules are sealed.
  • The Habitat Commander will further verify that all surfaces are clear of objects that might fall during takeoff
  • The Habitat Commander will further verify that the Interlock table is in the DOWN position
  • The Habitat Commander will further verify the cleanliness of the Hotlab

Order of Surveying

The Habitat Commander proceeds through the Habitat in the following manner:

  1. Longhouse
  2. Interlock
  3. Bathroom
  4. Airlock
  5. Hotlab
  6. Engineering Closet
  7. C&C

Unsuccessful Completion

If an anomaly was detected, inform FLIGHT and await further instructions.

Successful Completion

When all items are complete, inform FLIGHT and proceed to the following Preflight steps.

Software Sync

  • FLIGHT should inquire as to the status of the SERVER software on the Mezzanine.
  • MC-LOGS should initiate a MC Positions Check in accordance with MC-LOGS Procedures.
  • HAB-LOGS should initiate a Hab Positions Check in accordance with HAB-LOGS Procedures.
  • Mission Control will request the following statistics from the Habitat for comparison
    • Time Index (Pilot vs. GUIDO)
    • Outside Radiation (EECOM vs. EECOM)
    • Inside Radiation (EECOM vs. EECOM)
    • Habitat Fuel (ENG vs. ENG)
    • AYSE Fule (ENG vs. ENG)
    • Habitat Reactor Temp (ENG vs. ENG)
    • AYSE Reactor Temp (ENG vs. ENG)
    • Battery Life (2nd Bus) (ENG vs. ENG)
  • Mission Control will request the following actions from the Habitat
    • Toggle all ACC and ION on then off (ENG vs. ENG)
    • Toggle Fuel Cell Injector on then off (ENG vs. ENG)
    • Toggle Rad Shields On. Ramp to 30%. Ramp down. Turn off. (ENG vs. ENG)
