Dr. Magwood has been the teacher advisor since 2001-02, and has kept the OCESS on course through the worst period of its history, that is, the move back from the Media Centre to the Tech building, as well as the Double Cohort, a move by the Ontario government that cost the OCESS most of its senior members.

Software

When the writers and maintainers of the CMES software graduated, and issues arose, Dr. Magwood wrote the ORBIT suite of software in QBasic in order to allow the Mission to continue. He currently also maintains the software, and adds functionality periodically.

For Daedalus 2010, Dr. Magwood adapted a submarine warfare game that he had written in university to serve as the interface to Laura.

Power Tools

Dr. Magwood is the only one allowed to use power tools such as the circular saw and acetylene torch at worksessions, though others he designates may use the tools. The main exception are electric drills and soldering irons, which are commonly used by all members.

Teaching

Dr. Magwood teaches a 3/4 day at Lisgar. His usual subjects include Gr. 9 science and either Gr. 11 or Gr. 12 Chemistry. He taught the only AP Chemistry course offered at Lisgar in 2006-07 and that course has not been offered since.
