Shifts

Duration

Astronaut duty shifts are 30 minutes in length and are staggered so that they begin 5 minutes after the beginning of a 20 minute Mission Control Shift.

Scheduling

Scheduling Habitat Shifts is the pre-mission duty of the Mission Control Commander

Staffing

Shift-by-shift staffing is the responsibility of the FLIGHT director with the FAO and Habitat Commander.

Shift Change

  • Shift Changes should allow each astronaut to engage in a new activity to alleviate boredom.
  • Mission Control should request that a shift change be initiated
  • Shift Changes should be reported to Mission Control if they did not request that a shift change be initiated
  • Shift Changes should be logged in MC and in the Habitat
