The Final Countdown is a song by Europe that became popular in Spacesim in 2009-10. It is particularly appropriate because of its space-themed lyrics.
Notable Uses
Uses During Mission Daedalus
- One minute before the initial countdown started for Mission Daedalus 2010, CAPCOM Arrian Amir-Rafiei and Flight Director Samuel Baltz played this song over Windows NetMeeting to the Habitat CAPCOM Mikaela Stiver.
- On the Saturday morning before landing, Ben Paul, acting Flight Director, chose to play this song over the engine in order to wake the astronauts up. They were much more pleased with this than with their previous day's wake-up, which had been a loud buzzer.
General Use
This song is regularly played on the Habitat during training missions and in the Interlock or Command and Control during work sessions.
