The Habitat has several emergency systems to help ensure the safety of the astronauts and equipment under adverse circumstances. These include the SLINCE Drive and the Evacuation Tubes.
SLINCE Drive
- Main article: SLINCE Drive
The SLINCE Drive uses a long, superconducting cable to create a portable mass driver that can be used to rapidly accelerate the Habitat Earthward as a replacement for the AYSE Drive. It is a single-use device, and must be abandoned in its use.
Evacuation Tubes
Documented in Procedure 6.4, the Evacuation Tubes allow for astronauts who are too ill to remain on the mission to be evacuated back to Earth. They are essentially single-person versions of the SLINCE Drive.
