The Airlock is the Habitat's connection with the outside world. It connects to the Interlock on one side and opens outside on the other.
Function
The Airlock allows astronauts to exit and reenter the Habitat without adversely affecting the interior atmosphere of the Habitat. It also provides decontamination capabilities to those astronauts who may have been exposed to malignant organic life-forms or other harmful side-effects of leaving the Habitat. In the case of Airlock rupture, other rooms may be used as interim airlocks such as is the case with IVAs. The Longhouse is most often used as intermediate airlock if the door of the Airlock is obstructed, as the Longhouse's door is on the opposite side of the Habitat from the Airlock.
Relation to EECOM
The Airlock is one of six modules supported in the EECOM software, and it is the responsibility of the EECOM officer to monitor the atmosphere of the Airlock, as well as to depressurize and depressurize it as necessary. Due to the frequency of EVAs on the planetary surface, the Airlock's pressure is changed more than any other room.
