Crystal Xiao is a former member and commander of OCESS. She is perhaps best known for "nuking Venus", an experiment that she devised and carried out on one of the training missions of 2005-06, where radioactive tracers from a dirty bomb explosion in the atmosphere of Venus are used to study its atmospheric flow patterns. She is credited with first contacting the UTSDC along with her co-mission commander, Stephen Smith.
