I kinda suck at formatting images in wikicode, and reading Wikipedia:Images didn't really help all that much. I think we should establish guidelines in terms of size(pixels) and help files for formatting of pictures on the wiki. This is especially important when considering all the different profile pictures we've got up on member pages. Uploading
For lack of a better soapbox, I'm making this point here. We need to be able to upload images. It's that simple. Otherwise we have no pictures. Pictures are good. --TheKillerRabbit 16:42, 30 January 2006 (EST)
- I think it would be a good idea to put up biod for the astros and the alumni here. I tried to make a catagory for biod but failed due to my lacking wiki skills. It would also be fun to write our own bios and put them here (by "us" I mean us underlings/non astros/non MC). --Foo1 20:06, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
- That's kind of what User Pages are for... Request for Biographieness denied. Stefanido 21:12, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
- Um. I have uploaded images already. Can't everyone?
- Astro Bios should be on the Wiki too. Everything should be here. Not all astros have users, so your arguement there doesn't work either. Also, look at me. I deserve a bio to talk about my accomplishments as: Commander, Astronaut, Tech Director, PR Director, etc. but that shouldn't go on my userpage: Avacar it should go on my yet-to-be-written article Alex Ghosh. (P.S. When are one of you going to try to write a botched article about me? ;) ) -Avacar 12:25, 10 April 2006 (EDT)
- Exactly. We have a page for the admiral...then why not one for the MC and astros?--Foo1 16:02, 10 April 2006 (EDT)
Blank Pages
Can we stop creating blank pages? If you're going to do that, at least flag them with - Needs Expansion -. That said, what is wrong with leaving their links Red, reminding people they need to be made? - Avacar 16:49, 15 April 2006 (EDT)
- Do you mean flag with the template or the category? AFAIK, the template is deprecated. --The Killer Rabbit aka Nevin 18:17, 15 April 2006 (EDT)
- I agree with Alex. If a link has a red name, then you know you have to work on it. I'm going to make a policy of deleting articles that have the Expand Article tag as their only content.Stefanido 16:58, 9 January 2008 (EST)
Random grammatical edits
Jeff, I know you're trying to make our main page look pretty, but the last edits you made were all wrong, and I reverted the page. As far as I can tell, the Main Page is OK; it doesn't need any more fixes. --The Killer Rabbit aka Nevin 14:00, 16 April 2006 (EDT)
Notable Members
Should members get a separate page describing their contributions to sim aside from their user page, which can be used for non-sim/non-formal information? Refer to Nevin Hotson and user: theKillerRabbit to see what I'm talking about. Anther question is that what makes a member notable? Should the fact that another page refers to them make them eligible for a small page to describ them? It'd make for many more pages, but its not like our wiki is having too many pages.--Anthony 09:40, 18 October 2008 (EDT)
- I've been pondering this lots recently, and I think two pages, one being a bio, the other being a user page is an okay idea. Yes, my opinion is the exact opposite of mine last year, but oh well. Not just for notable members, but all members [political correctness: ALL MEMBERS ARE SPECIAL! YAY!]---Herr Doktor Tolkien von Oxford 00:10, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
- I agree, but I think there should be a tag for member bios, and to delete the "selfbio" tag, since many bios are going to be selfbiographies.--Anthony 10:48, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
- Oh, and when/if we should be removing the redirects to the userpages?--Anthony 17:19, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
- Certainly there should be such a template. I will make it in a second. Or it would probably be easier to just modify the autobio template. As to removing redirects, do it once a bio exists for that user.---Herr Doktor Tolkien von Oxford 22:11, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
- Template iszt done.---Herr Doktor Tolkien von Oxford 22:45, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
Spelling
The main page has been accessed over 18,000 times, and nobody has bothered to point out "Organization" on the first line is mispelled. It says "the OCESS is a non-profit organisation". IronyFail in ANAGLYPH 3D! 19:42, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- It is spelled right. May I point out that proper British spelling will accept either -ize or -ise, it doesn't matter which. Magnus 01:06, 11 February 2010 (EST)
Need for common standards and Help on Images
I kinda suck at formatting images in wikicode, and reading Wikipedia:Images didn't really help all that much. I think we should establish guidelines in terms of size(pixels) and help files for formatting of pictures on the wiki. - Formatting images is really easy. You only need to put a frame and specify pixels; that's what I've done for ages. For example
[[Image:Albert.jpg|right|thumb|400px|440 Albert St.]]
- as seen on the 440 Albert page consists of the image first, alignment (optional), thumb means it has a frame an caption, width, and caption. I'm rather tyred of people uploading tons of versions of a single image. ---Q-Cumber 17:12, 2 March 2010 (EST)
