This page refers to the 2020 global quarantine. Instances of quarantine on mission will be found in their respective pages and incident reports.

The Quarantine, officially beginning on March 14, 2020, was a government response to the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus_disease_2019 COVID-19] pandemic, which had recently begun its rampant spread in Canada. While initially believed to only last two weeks past March Break, it continued through April, May, and is expected to extend as late as 2021.

==Beginning==
The quarantine's announcement came about on a Thursday evening, leaving little time for preparation. Commanders [[Blakely Haughton]], [[Toby Armstrong]] and [[Jamie Tait-Glossop]] met briefly to plan for what they believed would be a three-week downtime. The plan was to finish the [[Mission Report]], and science officer [[Aidan Darling]] was sent home with the mission's surface samples. Heartfelt goodbyes were said, and OCESS prepared for three weeks on their lonesome.

==Continuing==
It became obvious early on that the spread of COVID-19 would not be slowing down any time soon. Various opening dates were announced, April 20th (4/20/2020), May 4th, and May 31st were all opening dates that were pushed back. It was declared on the 24th of May that school would not be in-person again for the duration of the 2019-20 school year.

==Adaptation==
Worksessions were moved to the OCESS [[Discord]] server. Focus was still heavily on the Mission Report, though 2021 Mission planning was also introduced. The hierarchy decided that it would be a good time to propose and implement the [[Pseudoparliamentary Reform for OCESS Hierarchy]], and the [[Election]] was campaigned for and held in late May. Productivity was at an unexpected high during the quarantine, as the club's members grew restless and looked for things to occupy themselves with.
