::::That's quite a misconception, as CAPCOM really does have to think. They have to take what the Flight Director says, read what the Flight Director actually means, paraphrase that into something appropriate for the radio, and transmit it. They need to take word-perfect dictation coming from the HAB, as one word could mean the difference between life and death for the astronauts. Finally, CAPCOM has to be aware of the mood on both ends of the communications, and endeavour to keep the lines of communication well oiled and always open. CAPCOM is not an easy job. It doesn't have a position in the hierarchy, though. Technically, the only MC position with any real rank to it is the Flight Director.
