Year Standardization
I was hoping to add a system to the style guide for articles on a given year. I was thinking that each year (e.g.: 2002-03) is broken down into a standardized list of essentials. They would go: Admiral, Mission Commanders, Planetarium Commanders, EEP Commanders, Tech Director, and PR Director. This would be followed by several sections a Mission section, an Education section, an Events section, and Improvements section, and a Lore section. The Mission section would include: the Mission (where and when), Astronauts (names and roles), Exchanges, and Mini/Training mission(s). The Education would include: notable planetariums (it would contain links if an article is too big), and notable EEPS (links if needed). The Events section would contain notable events links (example 2001 Lock out, and the Space Sim 10th Anniversary). The Improvements section would include: notable improvements (links to CMES, Doors task force 2005, etc); and the Lore section would contain links to lore, (e.g.: Pink Water, etc). What do people think? --Schmitz 15:12, 16 April 2006 (EDT)

The 2008 Mission to Mars, or Mission Red Dawn, was the first mission run using the Engineering Closet and the new, smaller Hotlab. Other changes for this mission included:
* A new version of the Orbit software implementing solid rocket boosters (SRBs) for terrestrial liftoff and a reusable parachute for atmospheric reentry.
* A new, more comfortable EVA suit.

Experiments
Experiments were performed on the following subjects:
* effects of fatigue on mental ability
* effects of music on mental ability and heart rate
* effects of distracting stimuli on mental ability
* effects of longterm exposure to the Martian environment on the Viking I lander

Additionally, due to the emergency situation of the loss of 30% of the Habitat's water stores, an attempt was made to build a Sabatier reactor to produce additional water using the Martian atmosphere. This experiment was a partial success, as water was produced but could not be retrieved due to extreme weather conditions.

Notable Events
* CJOH showed up without RSVPing several hours before launch, and some of the preparations were featured in a news segment on 26 February.
* Launch was only two hours behind schedule, which is believed to be a record for recent OCESS missions.
* All power to the main engines was briefly lost during the initial insertion to Earth orbit; however, the auxiliary power bus functioned properly, and a safe orbit was achieved.
* A total of five scheduled EVAs were performed, as well as several additional EVAs to repair damage and set up the Sabatier reactor.
* A powerful storm on the last night briefly incapacitated Cdr Hotson and Lt Rouble while they were on EVA to collect the water produced by the Sabatier reactor; however, Lt Cdr Xing was able to retrieve them safely.
* Landing at the OCESS facilities in Ottawa was at approximately 1415 EST; initial reentry was over Chicago, which was judged not to be an optimal landing site.
However, unlike the Reactor, the fuel cell works cold. Therefore the fuel cell is used when the main reactor is off, broken, or malfunctioning, as while Cold Starting the main Reactor. Since, during flight, the Reactor, not the fuel cell, provides power, it is not fatal to blow a fuel cell after launch, and the AYSE drive can automatically repair or replace a blown cell.

Strake: fixed punctuation error

The Scothorn Model is a currently unimplemented proposal to change the way Spacesim's Administration hierarchy is organized. Specifically, it suggests that the two individuals who act as Spacesim's Club Heads are not necessarily the two Mission Commanders.

History
Since its founding, Spacesim has been led by the Mission Commanders. An arguably regrettable result of this is that Spacesim's focus tends towards the Mission rather than the educational side of things. The Scothorn model (which, as the name suggests, was formulated by Jonathan Scothorn in 2007) would ensure that the two Club Heads are those out of the six Commanders who have the best leadership abilities. One result of this would be that the mission is just as important as the other aspects of Spacesim; another would be that those who wish to be in leadership positions are not required to apply as Mission Commander, but can instead apply for whichever position interests them most.

The Storey Model
The Storey Model was a modification to the Scothorn Model proposed by Bryce Storey shortly after the Scothorn Model was brought to table.
