Daniel maintains the server hosting the Lisgar Alumni Association's website, and that same server hosts all of the OCESS's web holdings as well. A '''Mission Alpha''' is a dry run for the year's [[Mission|Main Mission]]. This year's Mission Alpha was [[Daedalus]]. Its destination was Venus.

==Historical==
Missions Alpha were typically run about 1 month before the actual mission, lasting about 4–6 hours in duration. The purpose was to test
out all equipment, and discover any problems or areas lacking proper planning. It also was an excellent opportunity to test the level
of training for both [[Astronauts]] and [[Mission Control]] staff. This practice was first started by Mission Commanders Daniel Kekez and Jamie Rosen for the [[1997-98|Jupiter 1998 mission]].

In the 2001–2002 year, a [[Mission Beta]] was run. The Mission Alpha occured while the [[Habitat]] was still under construction, and as such a second dry run was needed closer to the mission date.

==Mini-Missions==
Mini-missions were historically an [[Elementary Education Program|EEP]] activity for older classes. In recent years, Space Sim has taken to calling the dry-runs ''Mini-Missions'' instead of ''Mission Alpha''.

The Space Simulation program at Lisgar Collegiate was founded under the name "Ottawa Board of Education Space Simulation" (OBESS).

When the [[Ottawa Board of Education]] was amalgamated with the Carleton Board of Education in 1998 to form the Otawa-Carleton District School Board, it was decided that the OBESS should change its name. At a lunch-time meeting, there was some name discussion and a vote was taken. It was decided to call the group the "Ottawa-Carleton Educational Space Simulation" (OCESS). The reasoning is that this new name encompasses the new board and keeps "Education" in our name. Furthermore, we had a nice logo for the OBESS and frankly everyone had better things to do (like prepare for the mission) than come up with a new logo -- so we just changed one letter.

The International Student Space Simulation (ISSS) was an international organization of high school programs that conducted simulnateous Space Simulation missions each year. Students were involved in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Russia.

Students from Lisgar Collegiate first became involved with Space Simulation when a group of students were invited to participate at a mission in Florida in 1989. There were three exchanges until 1991. At which point, students from Lisgar presented the [[Ottawa Board of Education]] with a proposal to build our own Lunar [[Habitat]] and conduct our own annual mission. This formed the [[Ottawa Board of Education Space Simulation]] (OBESS).

Over time, the participating schools in the ISSS lost interest. The OBESS, however, retained contact with its sister-mission site in [[Lexington]], South Carolina.

Every year, Spacesim conducts a 96 hour (5 day) simulated mission to an astral body in the solar system. Candidates for missions have been planets, moons, and even asteroids as the OCESS [[astronauts]] search for their own educational experience in the depths of "space".

The first mission in Ottawa took place in 1992. From then until 2000 (possibly later?), missions were 72-hours in duration. They would run from a Monday 13:00 (local time) to Thursday 13:00, or Tuesday 13:00 to Friday 13:00. The mission date was set for February by the [[International Student Space Simulation]] so that all missions would occur simultaneously. This practice continued until arround 1996, at which point, mission date coordination only took place between Ottawa and our sister-mission in [[Lexington]], South Carolina.

Lexington High School (LHS) was the location of the OCESS's sister program throughout the 1990's. Prior to the program's collapse in 1999, the simulation at LHS was involved in a yearly student '''[[exchange]]''' with the OCESS.

Prior to the fall of 1999, there was only one high school in Lexington, South Carolina. The Lexington High School Space Simulation program was supported by two teachers from the science department. That fall, a second high-school opened and one of the teachers moved there, and unfortunately they were no longer able to continue their Space Simulation Program.
