List of Memes
Memes are jokes, phrases, or events that have become part of Sim Culture. They are usually based off mission events and nerd culture. The following list is presented in alphabetical order.

Catclan
Created during the 2009-10 year by Charlotte Bonyun. The concept started out with Becca Kalinger being nicknamed "Spazzcat" due to her very cat-like manners and habits, but eventually expanded and named a large variety of people within Spacesim.

Rules for the naming of a Catclan member to-be have evolved with the group; a tendency to have the names start with the letter "s" became a rule, a spelling quirk made by the first male member, Spartakat (later Stargakat), having the ending with a "k" instead of a "c" became a rule for all following male members. A tacit rule also has the nicknames kept to three syllables or less, excluding the "cat/kat."

According to Charlotte Bonyun, a Catclan name becomes official once she hears of it.

Catclan Members
*Sarcasmkat (Ian Martin)
*Sarcastikat (Euan Wheaton)
*Sasscat (Charlotte Bonyun)
*Seizurekat (Nick Goddard)
*Siliconkat (Alex Mendes)
*Slayerkat (Morgan Mersereau)
*Skullkat (Jackson Clarke)
*Spacekat (Christian Angel)
*Spazzcat (Becca Kalinger)
*Squeecat (Cheyenne Carty)
*Stargakat (Chen-tao LaRochelle)
*Jamie Tait-Glossop is unofficially part of Catclan as 'Cardcat', so named after giving a former Catclan member a tarot card reading during Silver Seas 2018. It is yet to be made official by Bonyun, however.

The Final Countdown
The Final Countdown is a song by Europe that became popular in Spacesim in 2009-10. It was notably used as a preface to the countdown for Daedalus 2010 and as a wake-up song for the final day of that mission. The song is regularly played in the Habitat during training missions and in the Interlock or Command and Control during work sessions.

The Game
The Game is frequently played by members of Spacesim. To play The Game, please go here.

McSquiggly
A phenomenon on the Forums started by Lyra Evans, the forums' censor filter was used to replace all instances of the word "and" with the words "and McSquiggly and". For example, "We are currently working on doors and the sub" would be rendered as "We are currently working on doors and McSquiggly and the sub." It is assumed that the original purpose was to see how long it would take someone to post something on the forums asking about what was going on. The first person to do this was Ian Martin, two months after the inception of McSquiggly. It was later revealed that Forums' administrators Ben Paul and Maclean Rouble had been in on the joke from the beginning. Possibly after complaints, Lyra censored McSquiggly to "I'm Hanging onto dying traditions." A thread of the forum was dedicated to the death of McSquiggly, and it was a rather sombre affair until Samuel Baltz discovered that MCSQUIGGLY in all caps was not censored.

Monetary Surplus
Monetary Surplus is a euphemism for the Planetary Surface, used as a means of maintaining mission integrity. It came into fruition leading up to Mission Daedalus 2010. Euan Wheaton invented the phrase after purposely mishearing someone saying "planetary surface". Many jibes at Spacesim's financial situation followed the phrase's invention.

Nicely Done, Lyra
The Nicely Done, Lyra sign was created during Mission Daedalus 2010 by acting Flight Director Ben Paul written written on a white 8*11 paper in the Spacesim Office, and addressed astronaut Lyra Evans. It was created when Lyra, during dialog with Mission Control made a particularly funny joke about astronaut Euan Wheaton. The sign was held up to the CAPCOM webcam for the benefit of the Habitat crew. The sign was then presented whenever Lyra would accomplish any noteworthy action, such as overpressurising the Airlock later in that same mission.

Original Dialog
Preceding the conversation Mission Control was certain that it had heard Lyra Evans ending her sentences with "over" while talking to Euan Wheaton, and wanted to make sure that she hadn't been trying to talk to MC.

Mr. Baltz: "Lt. Evans, are you talking to us? Over."
:Lt. Evans: "No, I was talking to Euan."
Mr. Baltz: "Then why were you ending your sentences with 'over'? Over."
:Lt. Evans: "Because I was talking to Euan. It's like talking to someone a million miles away."

Phrases
*"Imma firin' ma lazar! BAAAH!"
*"Its all over yar face!!"
*"SHAWG!"
*"IT'S OVER 9000"
*"Rectum? Damn near killed'em!"
*"PART OF THE SHIP: PART OF THE CREW"
*"So, I tend to eat a lot of dirt." (Used when someone says something embarrassing or inappropriate within earshot of a teacher)

Trogdor
Trogdor the Burninator is a cartoon character from Homestar Runner animated movies first appearing in the sbemail "Dragon" where "kaizer" from California wanted to know if Strong Bad could draw a dragon. Strong Bad's first attempt fails (he ends up writing "The S is for sucks"). He tries again (using what he refers to as "Consumate Vs") and creates Trogdor the Burninator.

Trogdor has been part of Sim Culture at least since witty Spacesim members created their own version of the song and wrote it on the Habitat in the allotted space during Signing the Airlock. The Spacesim lyrics, thought to be written by Stefan De Young, replaces such lines as "Burninating all the peoples and their THATCHED ROOF COTTAGES!" with "Burninating all the astros in their DRYWALL HABITAT!" A handwritten copy of the original lyrics from the the heavy metal song about Trogdor is posted in the Sim Office, but it is inaccurate. Instead of having two "TROGDOR!"s, it has three.

We All Live In A Drywall Habitat
We All Live In A Drywall Habitat is a parody of the Beatles song Yellow Submarine. The song describes astronauts running around the Habitat screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs and banging very hard on every wall of the habitat.

The song was first sung during the 2008-09 mission Genesis to Iapetus. During the mission there were no set lyrics, but afterward the lyrics to the song were typed up and posted on the wall of the habitat by Zola Magwood.

Zarr
"Zarr" is a phrase invented by Cheyenne Carty as an amalgamation of the words "is" and "are." The phrase is used by members of Spacesim when giving each other props. The opposite of Zarr is Tard, though logically it should be Rraz.

The Zarr is initiated when a person is observed to be doing something props-worthy. If a Zarr is initiated to celebrate an action of the initiator, that person should be Tarded by hitting their outstretched fist in the style of "Bloody Knuckles." In the case where the target of Zarr is too distant, a Chain-Zarr may be initiated, where a Zarr is passed from person to person until reaching the intended recipient.

The Timeline is a mostly linear progression of events as experienced by OCESS and its membership. Due to OCESS' frequent use of time travel, and according to the Many-worlds interpretation, all events modified by time travel continue to exist unaltered in their original universe, implying that the Timeline exists across multiple universes. ==Mission Planning==
*Hindsight 2020 has two timelines. One was created in tandem by the Astronaut, Mission Control and Simulator crew. Like other timelines, it made use of the 5-day, complete allotted mission time and included 16 disasters, 31 EVAs, 17 data collection points, and a system consisting of dividing the Astronaut crew into 3 groups of 2 each, splitting responsibilities between them. Timeline was finished in early January 2020, and the Simulator timeline was finished shortly after.
*On February 12, 2020, the crew was informed that there would be a OSSTF-ETFO workers' strike on Friday, February 21st. This would require the mission to be put on hold for 32 hours whilst the strike took effect. Mission plans were changed accordingly, redistributing Friday's mission goals and disasters between Wednesday and Thursday. The next day, the crew was further informed that OCESS' fire plans were not to a recently updated standard, and as such would not be allowed to stay overnight. The ensuing panic was a defining moment of mission preparation, as dozens of ideas were proposed simultaneously to try and get back overnights. Reactions to this news were varied but universally negative, as the Astronauts were disappointed in not being able to sleep over, Mission Control were frustrated at not being able to do all of the experiments originally planned, and the Simulators were frantic to consolidate what was once a 100-hour mission into 50 hours.
*The mission timeline was rewritten in full by Cmdr. Jamie Tait-Glossop within a day of discovering the setbacks, and crew were able to acquaint themselves with the new timeline before the final worksession. The original schedule's 31 EVAs were condensed into the final 12 that were conducted. All disasters were able to be preserved, save for the ones omitted entirely from the Disaster Resource. Overall, the setbacks were very unfortunate, but the effective last-minute replanning and execution were a testament to the dedication of the OCESS crew.

Mission Goals
*
:Sediment mineral content will be characterised so as to give NASA’s subsequent mission the chance to determine how prolonged aqueous submergence of mineral grains might have chemically altered the minerals in their study area. This is important to understand how long the lake existed and what the nature of its water chemistry.
*
:Detailed observation of sediments and sedimentary rocks in the river channel to look for evidence of multiple generations of river channels. Such evidence, especially evidence of younger channels incising into sedimentary rocks units from prior river channel deposits, would suggest a long period of fluvial activity. The data from shallow seismic imaging will supplement the surface observations. Observations of surface geomorphic features also will be made to better understand the final stages of river activity before the system dried up. These observations also will help mars geographers understand how the subsequent 3.7 billion years of mars weather has modified the geomorphic structures from mars’ early wet period.
*
:Mineral content of different river channel deposits, if they are present, will be compared to the mineral content of different upstream regions. If the mineral content of different channel deposits match different source regions, this would suggest a long period of time for river channels to shift their paths. Sedimentary rock samples from drill core will be the primary source of material for analysis. Analysis of upstream highlands for mineral content will be conducted using reflectance spectroscopy from orbit and suborbital passes before landing at the main site.
*
:Sedimentary deposits from associated environments such as eolian (wind-blown) sand structures, flood-plain deposits, and evaporite mineral deposits will be looked for to better understand the environment that the rivers existed in.
*
:Assessing the planet's candidacy for future human inhabitation.

A callsign is a pseudonym that radio operators such as CAPCOM will use to refer to a specific person or group of people.

Important Callsigns
*The callsign for Mission Control is "M.C." (pronounced "emm-cee").
*The callsign for the Habitat is "Habitat", though "Hab" is also acceptable.

Spacesim Culture
In recent times, callsigns have come to be used as friendly nicknames, and have entered the general Spacesim culture. Some examples from the Mission Daedalus Astronauts are "Angel" for Lt. Christian Angel, "Africa" for Lt. Cmdr. Peter Macdonald and "Euro" for Lt. Euan Wheaton. For several years, callsigns went unused within the club, before being revived in 2020 as part of The Dig. Doctor Magwood endorsed this decision, on the condition that no one may choose their own callsign, instead that they must be chosen by other club members.

Toilets
In 2009-10 the chemical toilets in the bathroom were labeled with the astronauts' callsigns instead of their names, as had been done in previous years.
Abstract
The Boogie Mission was a mini mission which took place in the late evening (roughly 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM) on October 11th, 2019. It is notable for its use of rapidfire major disasters, its use of AUXCOM as opposed to the typical CAPCOM, and for the playing of extremely loud music over the habitat speakers throughout most of the duration of the mission.

Crew
CAPCOM: Jamie Tait-Glossop

Flight: Blakely Haughton

Engineering: Cesare Corazza

EECOM: Abigale Hamer-Wilson

Murray: Murray Renaud

Incidents
From the beginning of the mission, CAPCOM functionalities were completely unusable due to a broken microphone in the Habitat. AUXCOM was instead used for Hab-MC communication, while MC-Hab remained verbal. This worked for a while, until CAPCOM broke entirely, and the Astronauts were forced to use pencil and paper signs held up to the security cameras.

This minimission was the first one led by Simulator Owen Matthews, a member infamous for his sadistic approach to running disasters, as well as his uncommon prowess at Sim Engineering. As such, the minimission was riddled with never-before-seen disasters, few of which were truly resolved. By the end of the minimission, the only reason the crew was still alive was the fact that Owen wanted to keep them that way.

Ethan also used this minimission to test the Habitat speaker system. He would often play leitmotif-style music that he thought would fit the situation, which often resulted in crew being annoyed and discouraged by the (often loud) songs.

Blakely decided to test the attention of Mission Control by changing his flight path to point towards the sun, instead of the moon (the intended destination). He then asked MC if he was on the correct path, to which they replied 'yes'. This continued until he performed a proper landing on the sun, as the sun is treated similarly to the planets in the Flight software. His request to perform an EVA was cleared, after which he revealed the situation to Mission Control.

Many issues in the EECOM software went unnoticed by the crew, up to and including complete organ failure of the entire crew, due to the EECOM officer being otherwise occupied. Two crew members spent the majority of the minimission French kissing in front of the EECOM computer, meaning that all errors went unnoticed.

Results
This minimission was a wake-up call for OCESS, indicating that professionalism, training and focus were major issues. A lengthy discussion was held shortly thereafter, where it was decided that training would be further prioritized and minimissions would be rescheduled accordingly.

TransVersus Horizons is a Canadian megacorporation founded by Robert Tirnof in 1975 as Transverse the World Inc. It is known for its pervasiveness, predatory business practices, and frequent use of bribery.
About
Robert Tirnof founded Transverse the World in his hometown of Saskatoon in 1975, a highly aspirational electronic parts company. Its astronomical success can largely be attributed to the home computer boom of the 1980s, and by 1986 it had over 100 locations worldwide.(1) After a failed attempt to purchase the OBESS in 1987, a subsidiary known as TransUniverse was founded with the intention of rivaling OCESS' influence as a private space exploration group. TransUniverse's profit-driven practices proved to be its downfall, as the branch was closed in 1992. Transverse the World then branched out into a myriad of sectors, ranging from its origin in technology to communications, education, and even a major retailer in both online and brick-and-mortar stores. After a 2002 name change to TransVersus Horizons, it is currently a multi-billion dollar corporation - the largest in Canada by far - and a leading competitor to Amazon.
Involvement with OCESS
TransVersus Horizons attempted to purchase OBESS in 1987 as a part of its mission to become a spacefaring corporation following their $1 million contribution to OBESS' first mission, due to OBESS being Canada's only private space organization at the time. Robert Tirnof approached Ottawa Mission Control Commander and then-leader of OCESS Evan Turing with an offer of $52 million for complete acquisition of the organization and its assets. Turing rejected this offer, citing that 'if we were to forego our own morality to make a profit, then we could not truly call ourselves members of OBESS.'(2)<br>
After its request was turned down, the two organizations parted ways for over 30 years. TransUniverse was revived as TransCaelus Horizons in 2016 with plans of becoming an extraterrestrial mining company. They approached OCESS for a partnership, offering $730 million for the opportunity to send mining representatives and equipment on their 2019 mission to the asteroid 16 Psyche. The groups communicated via email:
*OCESS Crew and Assosciates,
We have done more research about the asteroid and are increasingly intrigued by the metal situation. We are continuing to research for scientific purposes to see what is present on the planet.
Our team is currently also researching drilling opportunities, with the aim to better methods for extraction on the planet. We are looking into diamond drill bits and other experimental mining procedures, but have not yet reached any conclusions about using these tools on 16 Psyche.
Kind regards,
Your friends at TransCaelus
*Message for Hawking III Crew
There have been several unexpected expenses on this mission, as well as aggravating restrictions which have severely limited our ability to benefit from it. As such, we would like you to perform some extra research on our behalf. I’m sure that your spacefaring associates would be quite experienced in processing finances, so a breakdown of the costs for mining on Psyche would be excellent. Additionally, let us know of any difficulties you had on this mission with regards to resource extraction, as we will need to consider them during mining operations in the future. Lastly, we have been considering the use of the Mond process, (should you not already know what that is, which I hope you would given your status, a quick internet search should tell you) for the purpose of nickel extraction. Please let us know if that would be a feasible operation and if we should invest in it going forward.
<br><br>TransCaelus Horizons' brazen disregard of Canadian and International law landed both OCESS and TCH in hot water following the mission. While OCESS and its 2019 crew members were found not guilty of any crimes, TransVersus Horizons was fined $32 billion by the Canadian government and forbidden from operating in the country. Its headquarters were moved to Detroit and all its Canadian locations became Loblaws-brand locations. Emily Rest and Gavin Brown, the crew's mining representatives, are still hiding from Canadian law enforcement in Russia.
On February 24th, 2018 at 1015, the Yellowstone Supervolcano erupted, immediately causing an estimated 90,000 deaths and plunging North America into a volcanic winter. ===2020 Moon Collision===
On February 22nd, 2020, whilst returning from Mars, the crew collided with the Moon.(2) The exact reason for this collision is unknown, but the entire crew perished. The Admiral then returned to a time long enough before the crash that evasive maneuvers could be planned, communicated, and executed, saving the crew from their untimely death. Members of Mission Control who witnessed the collision still have memories of the event, swearing to never reveal the information to the public; the Hindsight crew were informed of the event upon landing, remaining an open investigation to the present day. This event is cited as the origin of Blakely Haughton's callsign, 'Moonboy'.
Time Acceleration
A common application of time travel within OCESS is allowing the AYSE drive and habitat to travel great distances in short periods of time. Usually called Time Acceleration, Time Warp, or Time Dilation, this creates a bubble around the craft that allows time to elapse much faster within it than outside. The exact mechanism of this is unknown, though it is theorized that it is caused by manually and systematically folding the Slipstream to simulate the passage of time rather than allowing it to pass naturally.
About
The PPS was founded in 1970 by members from Canada, South Korea, and Australia with the goal of preserving the natural order of non-Earth celestial bodies and preventing human interference. Their current headquarters are in Seoul, South Korea, with branches in Sydney, Houston, and Saskatoon. Their mission statement has loosened slightly over time, no longer staunchly opposing all human interference in space but continuing to oppose human exploitation of extraterrestrial resources and destruction of alien environments. They have historically worked closely with various international governments to ensure that private space organizations do not violate the Outer Space Treaty among other international regulations.
Involvement with OCESS
The PPS took notice of OCESS' partnership with TCH and contacted Officer Kira Jane about their concerns via email.
*Crew and Associates of OCESS and TransCaelus Horizons,
We at the International Board of Extraterrestrial Affairs have been asked by the Canadian government to inform you, should you not already know, that there was a meeting held at 05:30 Eastern Standard Time this morning. Many government officials have expressed concern over the mounting political tensions with regards to the nature of your organization’s mission to the asteroid of 16 Psyche. It is unknown what actions will be taken by any government at this time, but OCESS is advised to remain aware and cautious of their situation.

Ria Durham, IBEA
*Crew and Associates of OCESS,
We at the International Board of Extraterrestrial Affairs hope that your mission is doing well. There has been a meeting held between representatives from your mining corporation, TransCaelus Horizons, the International Society for Planetary Protection, and the Canadian Minister of National Revenue. Concerns proposed by the ISPP, along with the mounting tensions with the Russian government have led to the decision to halt the endeavours of TransCaelus with regards to the financial exploitation of 16 Psyche. Please see attached statement from the ISPP.
The legal battle between TransCaelus Horizons’ parent company and the ISPP appears to have ended in a compromise for the time being. Representatives of TransCaelus have been given permission to examine the asteroid’s surface for research purposes only, and samples of up to only 150 grams will be permitted. Astronauts not affiliated with TransVersus Horizons or TransCaelus in any way are permitted samples of up to one kilogram. Furthermore, the total sample weight returned for TransCaelus must not exceed five kilograms, and fifty kilograms for OCESS only. Expect further information from the ISPP shortly.
Richard Fischer, IBEA<br><br>
Attached was a PDF outlining government regulations on the collection of samples.
*1. Communication between TransCaelus Horizons, co. (Subsidiary of TransVersus
Horizons, co. est. 1974) and the Transplanetary Expedition Vessel Hawking III (Property
of OCESS est. 1986) will be intercepted securely through an encryption backdoor
Earth-side. The ISPP and Canadian Revenue Society may release the contents of the
intercepted messages in the event of a legal intervention.
2. Informational contact between TransCaelus Horizons and its representatives within
OCESS must be restricted to once per day, and information regarding the data obtained
must not be discussed.
3. Direct, non-monitored contact between TransCaelus Horizons and the Astronauts and
Mission Control of OCESS is banned outright.
Failure to comply with these restrictions may lead to legal action and/or forfeiture of data and
property against OCESS and TransCaelus Horizons.(1)<br><br>
Officer Jane replied:
*Hello there.
I wholeheartedly agree with this, as the planetary protection officer for OCESS, I will make sure the crew follows these orders. One of the representatives for the TCH is threatening to hire a lawyer so they don't have to abide by these laws. Do we have any way that legal action could be taken whilst we are on 16 psyche? We would hate for our crew not to listen, and have a mutiny on our hands.
Sincerely,
Kira McGrath
OCESS Hab subcommander.
<br><br>PPS continued:
*This is an official message for the crew of the Hawking III Expedition Vessel.
This is simply an update to the previous message sent on 2019-02-20. After further deliberation with TransVersus Horizons and the Canadian Revenue Society, the use of diamond-tipped equipment of any kind (saws, drills, et cetera) will not be permitted on the asteroid’s surface for any purposes by any party, affiliated with TransVersus or not.
**We at the International Society for Planetary Protection care about your privacy. All messages sent are encrypted and decrypted on-device, and the utmost care is taken to ensure that the security of your device is protected.**
*This is an official message for the crew of the Hawking III Expedition Vessel.
Due to the commercial nature of TransVersus Horizons and its daughter company, TransCaelus Horizons, the ISPP, with permission from the Canadian and United States governments, are placing limitations on the corporate exploitation of the asteroid 16 Psyche. Individual samples taken by representatives of TransCaelus must not exceed 150 grams to a max gross weight of 5000 grams. Mining equipment of any kind is not to be used on the surface of the asteroid, and data gathered from the asteroid is not to be returned to TransCaelus or TransVersus in any form. Overall communications between the vessel and the company are to be limited and monitored.
**We at the International Society for Planetary Protection care about your privacy. All messages sent are encrypted and decrypted on-device, and the utmost care is taken to ensure that the security of your device is protected.**
*This is an official message for the crew of the Hawking III Expedition Vessel.
The ISPP extends a cordial thank you to the people at TransVersus Horizons, for providing us a grant towards the construction of our headquarters in Seoul. After much deliberation on the matter, it has been decided to give permission for usage of diamond-tipped drills in extraction of research samples from 16 Psyche, as well as other previously approved experimental mining equipment. Please note that this permission does not extend to other equipment not previously authorized. Please see attached document from the Government of Canada regarding violation of established restrictions.
**We at the International Society for Planetary Protection care about your privacy. All messages sent are encrypted and decrypted on-device, and the utmost care is taken to ensure that the security of your device is protected.**
<br><br>Attached was a PDF outlining government legal rights.
*Notice to TransCaelus Horizons co. and Affiliates
1. The restrictions imposed upon the participants of the 20XX mission to the
asteroid 16 Psyche are legal obligations, and will be treated as such.
2. The use of equipment, communications and data distribution must be followed in
the manner outlined previously.
3. Violation of regulations will be regarded as felony violations, and will be
punished to the full extent of the law. The participants and equipment of the
Hawking III Expedition Vessel (Property of OCESS est. 1986) will be taken into
legal custody and any persons thought to be affiliated with the crime will be taken
as witnesses in any legal proceedings.
4. Any unlawful communication between TransCaelus Horizons and OCESS will be
punished under the Confidentiality Act (1937) and may result in suspension of
funding to OCESS and/or legal action taken against both parties.
5. OCESS will be expected to disclose all previously non disclosed communications
to the Canadian Government upon their crew’s return to Canada.(2)
<br><br>TCH paid the PPS 1.2 billion dollars in exchange for allowing diamond-tipped drills to be used on 16 Psyche.
*Crew and Associates of OCESS and TransCaelus Horizons,
A large payment has been made to the ISPP on behalf of TransVersus Horizons. This payment has been made in exchange for the ISPP relaxing the regulations surrounding data collection on 16 Psyche. Putting aside IBEA’s stance on corporate leverage with regard to interplanetary law, this turn of events has led to a change of restrictions on TransCaelus Horizons. The gross mass limit for samples has been lifted, and the weight limit for individual samples has been raised to five kilograms. Data regarding 16 Psyche may be sent to TransCaelus, but be aware that all data gathered will be treated as scientific data under the Canadian Astronomical Research Transparency Act (1992, 2007, 2018). This act makes all astronomical research available to the public should it be disclosed at all. Transmission of data to TransCaelus entails forfeiture of the data to the use of the public.
Richard Fischer, IBEA
<br><br>Following the removal of restrictions, communication between the PPS and OCESS was halted. OCESS' subsequent violation of international law brought them back to PPS' attention following the mission. Mounting pressure from PPS and the negative press that ensued forced OCESS to significantly limit the scope of their following mission.

TCH's profit-driven practices proved to be its downfall, as the branch was closed in 1992. TransVersus Horizons then branched out into a myriad of sectors, ranging from its origin in technology to communications, education, and even a major retailer in both online and brick-and-mortar stores.
-Dave
Sent over TransMachina Horizons secure ISP systems. Call 1-613-555-0146 for technical support.
Subsidiaries and Aliases
*TransCaelus Horizons (formerly TransUniverse), a spacefaring and extraterrestrial mining company
*TransMachina Horizons (formerly Imachinations), a telecommunications company
*TransCivis Horizons (also known as MarketGrocer), a grocery and department store
*TransPratura Horizons (also known as everyMarket), an online retailer and distributor
*(1) Turak 1987 Transverse the World is a megacorporation with over 100 locations worldwide, and we are proud Canadians at heart like you are. It was not even fifteen years ago that we were a small startup in Saskatoon with big aspirations for the future.
*(2) Turak 1987 There is more to life than making money, and if we were to forego our own morality to make a profit, then we could not truly call ourselves members of OBESS. Our organization is a labour of love, dedicated to nothing more than learning about everything that the universe has to give to us. Transverse the World wishes to exploit these gifts for their own personal gain, and no amount of money will ever make us bend to their will as long as I have anything to say about it.

The Slipstream is a naturally-occurring Time Anomaly. First discovered by scientists in 1981, it is a space within which all events in time exist simultaneously, allowing for near-instantaneous travel between time periods for those capable of moving within it.
About
The slipstream is not visible to the naked eye; its boundaries are roughly denoted by a persistent temperature gradient where areas in the slipstream are heated to approximately 0.16 degrees Celsius above ambient. This temperature gradient occurs over a span of approximately four meters and its borders are not constant, moving sometimes inwards and outwards by up to 20 meters over the span of days to weeks. This heating appears to affect all known materials roughly equally and, as such, is apparent in soil, air, and even within the walls of buildings spanning the border. By averaging temperature readings over multiple years, a rough boundary can be found - a worm-like shape pointed at both ends, approximately 31 kilometers long, and varying between 400 and 780 meters wide along its length (except at its ends). It extends approximately 80 meters above the ground, such that the upper floors of very tall buildings such as the Minto Metropole, which would otherwise be located within it, are actually slightly outside it. Its maximum depth is unknown - boreholes of up to 710 meters in depth have yet to discover a lower boundary.(1)
<br>The most commonly accepted theory regarding the slipstream's existence is that it is the fourth dimension, much like the Z-axis is the third.

History
The slipstream has, presumably, existed for as long as the known universe; time-active entities such as the Admiral and Ethan have long been able to access the slipstream for personal use. In 1980, during OC Transpo's construction of the Transitway, the City of Ottawa documented the first time anomaly after a screw holding a 'No Parking' sign at Hurdman Central Station would unscrew itself no matter which way it was rotated. The following year, a construction crew discovered the slipstream by mistake when a Ford 555 backhoe was pulled into it; the Admiral later located it in the late cretaceous period, circa 73mya. The Canadian Time Anomalies Analysis Bureau was founded by the Canadian government to investigate and monitor the slipstream, before being absorbed into OCESS in 1990.
Ethan is an anomalous, time-active entity native to the planet Earth. He is OCESS' best-known instance of a time anomaly, simultaneously being older than human life itself and having yet to be born. He has mild reality-altering abilities; though, unlike the Admiral, they seem to apply only to himself. He takes great interest in the creation, modification, and unconventional use of technology, having a particular affinity for satellites.
About
Ethan will be born in an unknown year to the child of Jamie Tait-Glossop and their spouse. He will then, at a young age, fall into the Slipstream and be transported an unknown amount of time into the past, acquiring reality-altering abilities in the process. He has since lived somewhat linearly through time to the present day, where he works with OCESS' technologies taskforce whilst pursuing his personal projects. Ethan has claimed that the point in the future he traveled back from moves forward in time at approximately 1.29 hours per hour, resulting in an ever-expanding duration as the billions of years pass between the point traveled to and now.(1)

<br>Though Ethan is an eternal entity that predates the emergence of heterotrophic life and will outlive any human notion of 'cooking', his diet is remarkably consistent, appearing to consist of a roughly even ratio of dry, microwave-prepared Kraft Dinner brand macaroni and cheese and Big Box specials purchased from a Taco Bell restaurant. While the first Taco Bell restaurant was not opened until 1962, and Kraft did not begin production of packaged macaroni and cheese until 1937, it is considered unlikely that his diet could ever have consisted of anything else.

Time Travel is a blanket term that covers any modifications to, or abnormal behaviour within, the Timeline. Time travel can be initiated intentionally or by accident; accidental instances of time travel are referred to as Time Anomalies, though the line between intentional and accidental time travel is often indistinct. Following the Many-worlds interpretation, all events modified by time travel continue to exist unaltered in their original universe, implying that the Timeline may actually exist across multiple universes due to its frequent time travel. This theory also makes it difficult to distinguish time travel from dimensional travel; therefore all instances of changes to the flow of linear time are considered time travel.
Grandmother Paradox
The entity Ethan claims to be the grandchild of Mission Control Commander Jamie Tait. While Tait vehemently denied this claim at first, it has since been accepted as fact.(3) Ethan recounts falling into the Slipstream as a child, granting him his reality-altering abilities and transporting him an unknown amount of time into the past. This event presents a pair of possible scenarios: Ethan is the grandchild of a Tait from a parallel universe; or the exact sequence of events must occur to create Ethan and send him back in time, lest create a paradox.
2018 Yellowstone Supervolcano Eruption
(Main Article)
On February 24th, 2018 at 1015, the Yellowstone Supervolcano erupted, immediately causing an estimated 90,000 deaths and plunging North America into a volcanic winter. The European Space Agency took over communication on OCESS' behalf, due to OCESS' presumed destruction, and directed the crew to land in New South Wales, Australia. The Admiral, who survived the eruption, along with the majority of Mission Control Ottawa, by hiding inside of Keplernicus. The Admiral then traveled in time to before the eruption and prevented it, thereby meaning that it had never happened to begin with. Those who were not killed in the eruption still have memories of the event, swearing to never reveal the information to the public.(1)
2020 Moon Collision
