Our current priority (IMHO) should be updating the wiki's various out-of-date articles. I have thus created a [[Template:0910|template]] and category recognizing up-to-date pages. There are many different varieties of EVA suits, and [[Spacesim]] possesses two different types of suit: full-body suits (similar to the [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Advanced_Crew_Escape_Suit Advanced Crew Escape Suit]) and skin-tight [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_activity_suit space activity suits].

[[Spacesim]] originally conducted [[missions]] with only three of these suits, leaving those [[astronauts]] without suits to cower in safe modules during emergencies. These suits have several layers of fabric, which insulate and protect the [[astronaut]], and Velcro cuffs that help keep air in. Each suit is associated with a plastic bubble helmet. These suits, in particular one made with several layers of plastic, are know to get very hot very fast when an astronuate is wearing it. As a result, the plastic suit have been affectionally named the "hot suit" during mission Red Dawn; recent efforts to reform the EVA suit system is also a response to this problem.

==Space Activity Suits==
In response to criticisms that the older suits were too restrictive, hot, and generally showing their age, Commander De Young pushed for, and got to develop a new generation replacement, termed Space Activity Suits. These suits consist of a central 'corset' and elasticized fabric for the limbs, simulated by tights or long underwear. These apply mechanical pressure to the skin to prevent bruising in a vacuum. They are designed to be worn under a [[flight suit]]. These were intended as full replacements of the EVA suits, however, during their first mission in use, the corsets partially detarorated due to hasty construction leading up to the mission, and the less than gentle environment on board the Habitat. The tights segment of the activity suits were never enforced beyond the first EVA, due to the discomfert and "un-manly-ness" associated with wearing a tight/underwear.
Also, due to the easy and unencombered nature of the "corset", astronuates, like pilot Scothorn and co-pilot Xing, were able to wear the activity suit full time while having helmets and gloves placed on top of the computer at which they were working at at the time, thus mentally eliminating the danger of beta death.
Due to these complaints, the role of the space activity suits were redefined for the following mission, Red Dawn. Now they function as Emergency Pressure Suits. These suits offer less protection against other hazards, as compared to the "old" EVA suits, which have been pressed back into service. Their uses is restricted to inside the [[Habitat]], during liftoff/landing, iminent astroid impact, and IVAs; except in emergency circumstances, such as the sand/lightning storm during mission Red Dawn.

During the construction of the Space Activity Suits, a new series of [[helmet]] were made to accompany these. These helmets are better-equipped than the old ones, larger, and include a fan to prevent fogging; this fan is much appreciated by the [[astronauts]], for fogging often rendered the old helmets unusable after as few as ten minutes.

"The Pope" was written on him and he became remembered as a source of lewd jokes. His face was redrawn three times after the Sharpy marker markings wore off. This problem was solved when Ben Paul covered him in hockey tape contributed by [[Bryce]]'s dad.

==Radar==

To detect large objects such as space debris and asteroids, the [[habitat]] uses a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous-wave_radar continuous wave radar](CWR) system similar to that used on advanced air-to-air missiles. Each continuous wave radar system of the habitat consists of two radar dishes. One dish sends out a continuous radar signal and the other dish is devoted to receiving the signal emitted by its counterpart. This enables the radar system to calculate the velocity of the target by measuring the frequency shift due to the Doppler effect.

A continuous radar wave emmited at a certain frequency is incapable of calculating distance. To make up for this deficiency, the amplitude of the radar waves is moved up and down. When a reflection is received, the amplitudes are measured, and the Astronauts can find out when in the past that particular amplitude was sent out. With this knowledge a range calculation can be performed to determine the distance between the radar and the object.

==LIDAR==

There are several disadvantages to the CWR system on the habitat. It is easily disrupted by radiation and pulsars, and it cannot detect gas clouds. To compensate for these deficiencies, a light based system is also mounted to complement the CWR. LIDAR, or Light Detection and Ranging, uses a reflected light beam to detect objects. This is achieved by emitting the light beam at a known frequency (usually in the infrared or ultraviolet ranges). The light beam is reflected by various objects and picked up by a receiver. In addition to being able to detect gases, the LIDAR can determine gas' composition, by detecting the different ways gases react in to ultraviolet and infrared light. These changes can be picked up by the LIDAR and can help determin the chemical makeup of the gas cloud.

Also, since LIDAR can detect clouds and gases, it can be used to gather meteorological data about planets.

The main disadvantage of LIDAR is that it used a fairly concentrated beam; and thus the sweep area of a LIDAR detector is extremely small compared to that of the radar. By combining the two, we can use the radar to scan broad areas for navigational hazard, whereas the LIDAR is used only for specific areas of interest and to study gaseous phenomena such as planetary rings and gas clouds

==Astronomical Navigation==

The [[habitat]] is capable of computing its position within the solar system based on the theoretical speed and direction that the habitat has traveled since it left earth. This, combined with the radar and LIDAR, is accurate enough to ensure that the habitat does not run into any planets or moons. However, the habitat does not travel in an ideal world, and risks such as solar wind and calculation errors are real.

To allow the detection of any errors, the Habitat navigational software also compares the observed positions of astronomical bodies (such as planets) with their predicted positions. Because the positions of planets can be predicted with a very high degree of accuracy, even a small discrepancy will be detected. Once the discrepancy is known, the Habitat's true position can be determined, and the 'dead reckoning' sensors take over again.
